SEPT 1
My spelling and my grammar will not be exactly perfect but I will try to relay the subject matter as best as I can.
I am sorry to have to cancel this weekends races. I know several of you that I talked to were looking forward to
racing at the Speedbowl. The sport mods and the 600cc MIni-sprints were calling me right and left, we would have had 16 to
20 sport mods and 10 to 15 minis. It would have made quite a show. The modifieds either did not want to run for
the $500 each night or they just did not pre-enter, oh well. I was going to have to drop that class. The other
classes had 8 to 9 entries each (except box stocks)so that would have meant 10 to 15 cars in each and that would have been
fine. I had budgeted for 20 sport mods and 10 cars in each of the support classes. The rain just ruined my perfect
surface that I had spent a lot of time preparing for the races. I filled in it in on Thur but It was all soggy and would
have been extremely rough and since I brag about my surface and wanted it to be perfect for this race I was just about to
cry. Then, I had a health issure that was making it very difficult for me to get any work done at all. I did most
of the weed eating on wed night and that brought on a gout attack, something I've been dealing with for about 18 years now.
When it hits my toe or ankle I can take my anti-inflamation medicine and get over it in 12 to 24 hours usually without having
to take any thing for the pain. This time it hit my knee and when it hits a knee it takes a lot longer to get over it
and I can't even walk without the lortabs. So, when I woke up on Thur with the pain in my knee, I started my meds and
went out to mow with the riding mower and that was when I saw the track. I did not think the rain would have hurt it
as bad as it did. It rained a lot more out here than the weather man said Amarillo got on the news, I could tell by
how much water was in my lake and I think the culvert must be stopped up too cause it washed out the track about 12 foot wide
and about 1 foot deep. It was the worst I've ever seen it washed out. I pushed the soupy clay around and
filled in some but it was too wet to pack, my grader tires sunk to the bottom as I tried to pack it down. I knew
that I could not get it to pack down properly before the weekend and that it would be a big rough spot in my track surface
all weekend.
So, with my knee problem and the track problem plus I was a little behind on some other things that I had to get done,
I just decided I would not be able to get things done that had to be done especially the track and it would be best to
re-schedule. For one, I should have known that their just aren't enough sport mods for more than one special show on
the same weekend. With Lubbock running them and keeping most of the lubbock cars at home, although I had 4 entered here,
add that to the 2 Amarillo cars and then 7 or 8 from Elk City, 3 from the Ft. worth area, Then maybe a few late entries, it
will be much better in October. We should have 20 to 30 for that date, so we will see. It is important to me that
you all know that I did not care if the sport mod car count was low for this race, I wanted the guys to win some good
easy money and for the "fence riders" that may be wanting to build a sport mod to see that we will be having some special
shows and to make them want to get them a car for our Friday night races in 2008. I don't mind running a race that loses
money or does not make me a boat full of cash if it is a promotional Idea for the future. The future for dirt track
racing needs to be promoted toward cheaper race cars and lower protest fees and proper track tech inspections that will keep
it cheap. I recently heard that someone has spent $7,000 for a cyclone engine. NO ENGINE IN ANY CLASS SHOULD COST
THAT MUCH IF THE RULES ARE RIGHT!!!!!! Even the modifieds would be running a lesser engine than that if the claim
rules were followed properly. IT'S THE BEGINNING OF THE END WHEN YOU GUYS HAVE TO PLAY SPENDING WARS TO WIN RACES !!!!!!!!!!!
No engine at my weekly shows will cost that much. Box Stocks and thunder bomber will run "STOCK ENGINES" Sport
Mods will run legal engines and should not cost over $4000 Quote me here 'CHEAP CARS AND CHEAP ENGINE EQUALS MOST RACERS"
I have been ther and done that with my track in the past and I know it works. It does not happen over night it takes
a season or two to start to pay off but it does work. That is why I know there is a market for a 2nd track that
runs cheap cars and cheap motors. How many stocks cars are sitting in back yards with a cage and no money for a good
motor to be competative? Clean that old car up and put a stock motor in it IT'S A BOX STOCK much like my old rules for
showroom stocks back in the late 80's and early 90's $100 to win for box stocks and $250 to win for sport mods every
Fri night at the Speedbowl 2008 plus thunder bombers.
More blog every few days check back for more poop or just plain ol BS.
